Vacy Riverbank Biodiversity planting day
Hunter Region Landcare network and Gresford Landcare will be hosting the planting day at Vacy. The Vacy riverbank project is a central and special place where the community can access the Paterson River. Local community and the Gresford Landcare group have adopted this site recently (2022) to make the river accessible and to start to re-establish some native biodiversity there. We have been running monthly working bees to tackle the weed issues such as green cestrum, balloon vine, madeira vine, giant reed etc. We have received some support from the Dungog shire council weeds officer with weed control as well. We have started some small plantings in strategic areas and this winter is the right time to undertake the next stage of planting where weeds have been controlled and native recruitment is low, so tubestock planting is necessary. The species selected are appropriate for the site and will form part of a dry rainforest community which was the original preclearing vegetation community here. Please join us!! Many hands make light work.
