Mackay Regional Council Tree Day Site Details

Mackay Regional Council

The Mackay Regional Council 2024 National Tree Day site is framed by Gossepond Creek on one side and delineated by the pathway in Glenfields Park. This project supports pathway shading in line with the Mackay Urban Greening Strategy. Planting will follow the preclear Regional Ecosystem (RE). Planting palette representative of RE 8.3.5 -Eucalyptus platyphylla and/or Lophostemon suaveolens and/or Corymbia clarksoniana woodland on alluvial plains with pioneer rainforest elements (some of which are already existing on site). Regional Ecosystem 8.3.11- Open forest in broad drainage areas. Regional Ecosystem 8.3.3- Open forest on creek banks and Regional Ecosystem 8.3.12-Tussock grassland on alluvial and old marine plains. Soil evident on site has been identified as old marine plains (which no longer receive any tidal inundation, often on black cracking clays) of lowlands. Border plantings will be installed along the path to provide visibility and low maintenance.
