Help us plant 1 million seedlings this National Tree Day
By Sarah Chaplin 13 April 2022
Help us plant 1 million seedlings this National Tree Day! We will be opening up the next round of grants from The Seedling Bank to cover the cost of seedlings on the 26th April. If you have an environmental project in need of financial support, make sure to apply for a grant when registering your National Tree Day event.
Each year, as part of National Tree Day we aim to see 1 million native seedlings planted to restore our unique Australian landscape. To do this, we need volunteers like you to host and attend planting events around the country, from the bush to the coast.
The Seedling Bank is a grants program launched in 2019 to assist our community in covering the costs of seedlings to plant at National Tree Day events. So far, the program has seen 70 groups around Australia plant over 33,000 native seedlings. Schools and community groups can apply for grants, and we’re excited to support both large and small projects.
On the 26th April 2022, the next round of applications will open to the Tree Day community. To apply for a grant, simply log in to the coordinator hub and register a National Tree Day event (i.e. hit “host a planting” on our website). You will then be able to add a grant application as part of this process. If you have already registered, you can edit your event to include an application. All applications from last round that did not secure funding will be automatically reconsidered in this round!
We’ve had the privilege of supporting many incredible environmental projects across the country. In the remote community of Manyallaluk in the NT, the team at Nyirrunggulung-Rise engaged community members to prepare planting sites, plant trees and provide ongoing care for the seedlings as part of an employment and training program. Kids from the local school were also invited to come along and help plant trees to provide shade for the community and habitat for local birds and other wildlife. You can read more about this group and other inspiring stories from The Seedling Bank in Tree Talk.
If your community group or school has plans to plant this year, make sure to apply for a grant! We are happy to support planting events year round, as we believe every day is Tree Day.
