Friends of Mt Hyland Inc. Tree Day Site Details

Friends of Mt Hyland Inc.

Motherland Mt Hyland is a 968 acre privately-owned conservation property near Dorrigo in NSW Australia. The devastating bush fires on the east coast of Australia in 2019 burnt large sections of the property, including rain forest areas that usually don't burn. With the help of volunteers and land-care agencies, a start has been made on planting new rainforest and other trees to help regenerate the forest. Friends of Mt Hyland is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2018 with the aim of contributing to the ongoing maintenance of Motherland Mt Hyland. Our National Tree Day event, Rainforest Shindig, will be open to people who would like to contribute to the regeneration of the forest, home to 29 threatened species of plant and animal. Activities on National Tree Day include: • Re-potting of rainforest tree and shrub seedlings into larger pots in preparation for planting in early October. Earlier planting is not possible due to frost on the ground in August and into September. • Moving re-potted seedlings into the shade house. • Making and dropping seed bombs in the rainforest. • Musical entertainment over lunch. • Information sessions about biodiversity conservation on private land, enhancement planting, bush regeneration and caring for endangered plant and animal species and a gentle walk in the rainforest. Snacks and refreshments will be available throughout the day and you have access to a BBQ.
