Hume City Council Bird Buddies Tree Day Site Details

Hume City Council Bird Buddies

PLEASE REGISTER your attendance at Due to Covid-19 restrictions, only 100 people can register to attend (including children). Updates will be sent through Council's booking system. Spavin Lake is a well-loved place for the community to walk their dogs, go fishing, and watch the birdlife. This community event is all about the birds. We'll plant a range of mid-storey shrubs and groundcovers to improve the habitat for local birds. Partner organisations will be there to share dog-training tips and information about all the things we can all do to help native wildlife, such as not feeding bread to birds or knowing what to do if you find an injured animal. Council will also be giving away free bird habitat seedlings as part of its Gardens for Wildlife program. Pick up your free copy of the Birds of Hume field guide. We may even get to check out what's using the artificial tree hollows that have been installed around the lake.

In the case of light drizzle or intermittent rain, the planting event will go ahead. Participants are required to register on arrival, so that they are covered by Council's insurance policy. We also ask prior permission to take photos/video footage on the day, that may be used for Council's promotional purposes. As part of the planting induction, we will discuss the safety risks to be aware of and demonstrate how to best plant a seedling.
