Spavin Drive Lake Bird Habitat
Spavin Lake is a well-loved place for the community to walk their dogs, go fishing, and watch the birdlife. This community event is all about the birds. We'll plant a range of mid-storey shrubs and groundcovers to improve the habitat for local birds. Partner organisations will be there to share dog-training tips and information about all the things we can all do to help native wildlife, such as not feeding bread to birds or knowing what to do if you find an injured animal. Council will also be giving away free bird habitat seedlings as part of its Gardens for Wildlife program. Pick up your free copy of the Birds of Hume field guide. We may even have a birds of prey display (weather dependent) and check out what's using the artificial tree hollows that have been installed around the lake.
