City of Yarra/Merri Creek Management Committee Tree Day Site Details

City of Yarra/Merri Creek Management Committee

The City of Yarra is hosting National Tree Day, 2020 at Halls Reserve, Clifton Hill, Near the corner of Walker St and The Esplanade. The works include returning a weedy escarpment area back to an indigenous floral meadow to reduce habitat fragmentation and initiate the restoration of ecological function back to the area. Nestled along the Merri Creek and a short distance to the Yarra River, repairing this section of Riparian Woodland will assist many indigenous fauna species to become more resilient in the future. The full project has secured over 10000 plants to restore the site during this year. In addition to planting 4000 species on National tree day we have the following activities planned: - bush-babies petting zoo in conjunction with Animals On the Move - ‘Waterwatch’ (Melbourne Water entomology/ecology display) - Free barbecue (w/ halal vegetarian option) - Location along the shared trail hopefully encourages cycling volunteers - New playground … all intended to support a 'family friendly' vibe
