City of Yarra/Merri Creek Management Committee
The City of Yarra is hosting National Tree Day, 2020 at Thomas Kidney Reserve, near the corner of Kneen St along Rushall Crescent. The works include improving an indigenous grassland into floral meadow to reduce habitat fragmentation and initiate the restoration of ecological function back to the area. Adjacent to the Merri Creek and a short distance from the Rushall Train Station repairing this section of Plains Grassy Woodland will assist many indigenous fauna species to become more resilient in the future. In addition to planting 1000 species on National tree day we have the following activities planned: - bush-babies petting zoo in conjunction with Animals On the Move - ‘Waterwatch’ (Melbourne Water entomology/ecology display) - Free barbecue (w/ halal vegetarian option) - Location along the shared trail hopefully encourages cycling volunteers - Location next to Rushall Train Station hopefully encourages PT use rather than cars all these supplementary activities are intended to support a 'family friendly' vibe
