Maribyrnong City Council Community Nature Day

Help us plant 1000 new trees! Maribyrnong City Council is proud to be backing National Tree Day again in 2019, and is now calling on the community to help plant 1000 new trees along the Maribyrnong River. Community members of all ages are invited to join us on Sunday 29 July to plant new trees, and will be treated to a free coffee cart and BBQ lunch for their efforts. While younger community members can enjoy a free wildlife show and face painting on the day. Maribyrnong City Council is committed to increasing vegetation in the municipality and as part of the Greening the West initiative are working towards a target to double tree canopy cover in the west by 2050. National Tree Day, a national initiative by Planet Ark, is an opportunity for local residents to connect with other community members and spend time in nature. Research shows that exposure to nature improves mental and physical health and also helps children learn about the natural world and develop key life skills such as problem solving and resilience. Maribyrnong residents can find out more information and register to attend the National Tree Day event by visiting: nationaltreeday2019.eventbrite.com A word from the Mayor, Cr Martin Zakharov: “I am excited to see community members come and help us plant 1000 new native trees along our much loved Maribyrnong River, to help improve and create more homes and food for our wildlife.”
