Umina Community Group
Council have given us permission to plant six advanced trees at six locations in Ocean Beach Road. Our plan was to have 26 trees planted but existing infrastructure under the verge prevented most of the desired plantings. Our aim is to restore canopy back to our streets. Trees are our best defense against hot summer temperatures, increased pollution levels and loss of habitat for wildlife. These trees, when well looked after, will provide oxygen, provide protection from UV rays and provide homes for native birds and animals. Volunteers will be planting advanced trees at six locations on Ocean Beach Road (between West Street and The Esplanade) Umina Beach. Holes will need to be dug, trees in 45L tubs will need to be lifted into the holes. Compost will need to be carried then added into the holes. Trees will be watered and staked. Finally trees will be mulched. National Tree Day signs will be attached.
