Wirth Rd Tree Planting
The site is on a property that is bordered on three sides by d'Aguilar National Park. Sections along May Creek have vegetation typical of notophyll vine forests (ecosystem:12.11.10) while the slopes of the valley are open spotted gum forest (12.11.5). The planting sites are the ecotone between these which was cleared most recently in 1970 and now consists of a black wattle monoculture and lantana understory. The day's objective is to plant on areas that have been recently cleared of lantana, to suppress exotic grasses/weeds and lantana regrowth. The land is ready to spring back, with many native seedlings regenerating naturally while the wattle has increased the soil fertility. The species to be planted today will supplement this natural regrowth.
