Whiteman Park’s Horse Swamp community planting

Our annual National Tree Day plantings are a great opportunity for the local community to get involved in the regeneration and overall improvement of previously disturbed and degraded habitats in the Park, so we'd love to see everyone and their green thumbs! This year, we are commencing a new multi-year habitat restoration site, planting a bushland buffer zone between Dulwich Street and the Conservation category wetland, Horse Swamp to help support the health of this important wildlife habitat. The vegetation buffer that will be created through this regeneration project will support a range of species in the future, from the quenda (southern brown bandicoots) and koomal (brush-tailed possums) to resident frogs and a host of bird species. Volunteers should wear enclosed shoes and weather appropriate clothing, including hats, long sleeve shirts, long pants and/or a rain jacket). Please bring some gloves if you’d prefer to use them, but we will have hand washing facilities on site.

DIRECTIONS

Our planting site is located along the Werrilyiup Trail, between the back of the Dog Park and Horse Swamp. This year’s site is readily accessible, but, like always, takes place in the soft sands prevalent in the Park. To get there, you can: - Park at car park 23 at Mussel Pool West and take the start of the Werrilyiup Trail (blue poles), following the ‘planting’ signs to the planting site. - Alternatively, you can park with care on Dulwich Street and enter via a small pedestrian gate that will be open for this planting day.
