Nature Glenelg Trust - Mt Burr Swamp
Mt Burr Swamp was purchased by Nature Glenelg Trust (NGT) in 2016 through a partnership with the Native Vegetation Council, One Forty One Plantations and the incredible response of the local community fundraising the remaining amount. In 2018 an additional 68 hectares was added to the property, taking the property to 368 hectares. Mt Burr Swamp Habitat Restoration Reserve includes many drained wetlands, including the main deep freshwater marsh that is the centre piece of the property. Since 2016 the property has undergone a variety of restoration activities in a staggered stage, with much of the property still being used as primary production. Some of these activities include the filling of many of the drains, and the habitat restoration of many threatened species through 1000’s of plantings. This planting event will contribute further to the habitat restoration for threatened species such as the Southern Bent Wing Bat, Brolga and Australasian Bittern, in areas where restoration works have only just started.
