Western Port Koala Corridor Project Tree Day Site Details

Western Port Koala Corridor Project

The aim of this project is to create a wildlife corridor around the entire Western Port Biosphere Reserve. We are continuing the amazing work of Mornington Peninsula Koala Conservation on the Peninsula all the way to San Remo on the Bass Coast. The aim is to encourage landowners to revegetate their properties with koala habitat trees and to get volunteers to participate in planting days. The aim is to create a continuous corridor to enable all wildlife to move across the landscape as they did in the past and be able to mix with other species of their kind to increase their genetic diversity. We are particularly focused on linking the landscape up to the Western Port Woodlands where koalas of the significant Strzelecki genome inhabit. These koalas act as an insurance policy for the future survival of Victorian koalas, therefore it is very important to increase the gene pool of these koalas.
