Tree Rites Tree Day Site Details

Tree Rites

This community planting will take place on degraded farmland on the edge of the town of Dungog. This project will plant a 100 m2 Tiny Forest inspired by The Miyawaki Method, in which densely planted forests are created using locally indigenous species. This method offers a solution to rehabilitate degraded areas and address biodiversity loss and restore soil. It also will provide the community with the capacity for tangible local environmental action. The aim is to create a balanced and self-sustaining environment, which includes upper storey, middle storey, lower storey and groundcover species that will provide habitat and a source of food for a full range of birds and fauna as well as protective habitat for nesting and roosting.
