Volunteer your workplace to plant trees and regenerate nature

By Jennifer McMillan 9 April 2024

Join thousands of schools, councils, community groups and volunteers for Schools Tree Day (26 July) and National Tree Day (28 July).

Each year, Planet Ark’s National Tree Day brings together Australians from diverse communities to engage in a powerful act of hope: planting a tree.

National Tree Day isn’t just for environmentalists and nature lovers. It happens everywhere – in big cities, small towns and remote areas – and welcomes Australians no matter their background or community of origin. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and span multiple generations. From the seasoned site coordinators who have been planting with Planet Ark for almost three decades, to the students who learn to plant their first seedlings in celebration of Schools Tree Day.

Plantings can take place at any time of the year, but the official dates we celebrate are the last Friday for Schools Tree Day and last the Sunday in July for National Tree Day. Tropical Tree Day is held on the first Sunday in December each year to suit the climatic conditions of the northern states. Whether it's your first time organising a planting or you have been involved in the campaign before, here are a few tips to help you get involved with National Tree Day.

Host a site

Join the thousands of site coordinators and run a National Tree Day event in your community.

Collaborate with your community

Reach out to support a local school or community group by providing seedlings, equipment, financial support or event assistance. Members of the Tree Day community are often looking for resources to support their event, workplaces and individuals can list available resources in the Coordinator Hub

Volunteer at a site

Enter your postcode on the find a site map to see the public events registered near you. Individuals can register to volunteer. Sites have limited seedlings and sites will reach capacity. If your workplace has many staff looking to volunteer, it’s best to host your own site or divide your group between a few different sites in the area.

Donate to Planet Ark’s Seedling Bank

Over 130,000 seedlings have been funded through Planet Ark’s Seedling Bank and 50,000 more have been allocated to planting projects planned for this year. Funding goes directly to schools and community groups to purchase seedlings. Because of the high number of applications, we are unable to support all applicants. Help us grow our pool of funding by donating, signing up to workplace giving or become a sponsor or supporter Planet Ark’s Seedling Bank.

Join the volunteers who participate in National Tree Day to demonstrate the power of collective action and build meaningful relationships in your community. To learn more about National Tree Day download the business guide or email Planet Ark’s support team at treeday@planetark.org.
