Friends Of Sturt River Landcare Group Inc.
For the past eight years we have been planting and caring for native trees, shrubs and grasses to create a wildlife corridor beneath the old redgums on the western side of Oaklands Wetland and Reserve. This year we are continuing to focus on the world beneath our knees - the smaller flowering shrubs, host and nectar plants and native grasses - that create life for insects, birds, fungi, lizards and butterflies. Join us to help us make niches for creatures in this fabulous reserve.

City of Marion and the Friends of Sturt River Landcare Group invite you to RSVP for a community planting day to mark National Tree Day at Oaklands Reserve. Join our volunteers as we add thousands of native plants to our biodiversity corridor. Please note: with Covid still around, and vaccinations going slowly, the land manager has asked that we cap the numbers of planters for this year's Tree Day @ Marion. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your place. We will do our best to include everyone. Please let us know if you would like to be added to our waiting list for other plantings or future activities.
RSVP Confirm your place by sending an email to email@example.com (Please note: we will not release your personal information to others.) You will receive a flyer with a map, details of what to bring & transport options. Meet at the volunteers' desk at the rear carpark of Oaklands Reserve to sign in, collect your gloves and meet your planting demonstrator. Our volunteers will provide you with a planting and safety demonstration to help get you started. We provide gloves, seedlings, buckets, refreshments and a celebration sausage sizzle. You may prefer to bring your own gloves and hand trowel, but you will not need to bring heavy digging tools as the holes will be pre-dug for you by City of Marion. There are picnic tables and shelter near this year's planting site. Public toilets and basic hand washing facilities are available near the rear carpark of this reserve. Sealed and unsealed paths mark the way to the site. This event is held outdoors in winter. Please dress warmly, wear sturdy footwear and bring a light jacket in case of light showers. There is some shelter in the reserve, so planting will only be cancelled if there is persistent heavy wind and rain or lightning is forecast. You will be notified by email prior to the event if we need to reschedule due to extreme weather.
