Awabakal LALC Community Day

Awabakal Local Aboriginal Land Council is working in conjunction with NSW Environmental Trust’s Protecting our Places Grants Program and we will be undertaking a ground preparation, replanting and revegetation, and ultimately a fox monitoring and baiting program. We want to help protect the migratory shorebirds that nest in the areas around Hexham Swamp. The fox baiting aim is to reduce fox populations and protect the threatened migratory bird species. The program encourages and empowers Aboriginal communities to protect, conserve and restore cultural landscapes and waterways that are of importance to local Aboriginal communities. The fox baiting is not due to commence until later in the year. We will be clearing weeds and planting over 4,500 plants in the area off Kau-Ma Reserve.
