Mackay Regional Council

The project site is located adjacent to Far Beach, within Illawong Park. The foredune along Far Beach presents a narrow zone of coastal vegetation dominated by sheoak open forest. Adjacent to the foredune and immediately south of the site exists a small patch of critically endangered microphyll vine forest on coastal dunes, otherwise known as 'beach scrub'. Reclaiming a 9000m2 section of Illawong Park through the establishment of local provenance indigenous plant species during National Tree Day and School Tree Day 2019 will not only assist in the enhancement and preservation of Mackay's natural environment but will provide a shared uplifting volunteer experience that will be remembered by participants in years to come.
