Wellstead students planting

On Friday 29th July 2011 team members from Bunnings Warehouse Albany travelled nearly 100km to Wellstead Primary School for Planet Ark's Schools Tree Day. Wellstead Primary is a rural school about 100km north-east of Albany with only 23 students.

The Bunnings team members spoke to all the students about sustainability and the importance of planting trees. Students were then buddied up and planted at least two plants each. The students were helped by the Bunnings team to plant 70 native shrubs and groundcovers. The plants, as well as fertiliser, potting mix, garden trowels and forks were all donated to by Bunnings to assist with the project.

The Wellstead Primary School Students were very excited about being involved in Schools Tree Day and being able to undertake the planting activity as part of their learning. Bunnings team members were made to feel very welcome and celebrated the success of the activity by joining the teachers for a coffee at the end of the day.

Even small schools like Wellstead Primary are able to be involved in Schools Tree Day and make a difference by planting trees in the local community.

"On Tree Day 2011 Wellstead Primary School was privileged to have Bunnings Warehouse Albany visit our school to plant a variety of shrubs and ground covers along our eastern fence line. The day was a tremendous success and all the plants are doing beautifully. A special thank you to Bunnings for their generous donation, coming to our school to assist with the planting and advice on the care of the plants. We look forward to Tree Day 2012."
