Planet Ark has been announced as one of four donation partners for New South Wales' Return and Earn Scheme launching this December 1

Planet Ark is pleased to have been selected by the NSW Government to be one of the Initial Donation Partners for the NSW ‘Return and Earn’ Container Deposit Scheme (CDS), which launched on 1 December. The announcement means consumers returning containers via the scheme can elect to donate their refund to help fund our important work providing positive environmental actions for everyone.

Planet Ark, Surf Life Saving New South Wales, St Vincent de Paul Society and Cancer Council NSW have been announced as the first four Donation Partners. Anyone who returns an eligible drink container through a reverse vending machine will receive a 10-cent refund and have the option to donate the refund to the charity of their choice at the collection point.

Most drink containers between 150 millilitres and three litres that are purchased in NSW can be returned through Return and Earn. The scheme will help to reduce litter in the environment and aims to achieve a 40 per cent reduction in litter volume by 2020.

Planet Ark’s CEO Paul Klymenko has welcomed the announcement.

“It is a great compliment to Planet Ark to be included alongside the other Initial Donation Partners and to be so closely involved with the NSW CDS launch. The results of other Container Deposit Schemes, both here and overseas, have been extremely positive for the environment, so this is a really important step forward.”
