Bentleigh West Primary School planting
On Monday June 1, to celebrate World Environment Day and Planet Ark Tree Planting Day we extended our planting of Bunjil's Garden located at the front of the School. This also coincided with the visit to our school by students from one of our Sister Schools - Luurnpa School, Balgo, Western Australia - a remote indigenous School in the Tanami Desert, Western Australia.
The plants - trees, shrubs and grasses - 1,000 in total were provided through a Glen Eira Community Grant supported by Caulfield Lions Club. We invited our neighbours from Classic Residences - a retirement village and local Glen Eira councillors to assist parents, staff and students with the planting. Bunjil's Garden, located at the front of our School is a large expanse dedicated to Bunjil the Eagle, Wurundjeri and Kulin Nation. We estimate that 600 students, staff, parents, volunteers and guests planted about 1000 trees, shrubs and grasses. The plants were sourced from our local Bayside indigenous nursery.
