A Big National Tree Day Thankyou!
On Friday 25th July we along with hundreds of school celebrated Schools Tree Day and Sunday 27th July was National Tree Day. Hundreds of thousands of volunteers planted native trees and shrubs as a part of this year's effort to get growing.
At Merri Creek Primary School we got involved too. We planted Dodonaea viscosa or (common name)wedge- leaf hop bush ><12, Correa glabra (common name) rock correa>< 15 and Acacia acinacea (common name) gold-dust wattle ><15 in the established native garden bed behind the soccer goals.
The green team also planted Indigofera australis (common name) Austral indigo >< 10, at the front of the school near the rain water garden. These plants, recycled tree guards and stakes were donated by the City of Yarra. Thanks to Mark, Lloyd and Craig at vinc.
We are very grateful to our parent, teachers and children who helped on the day and to those of you who are watering and checking to see that their plant grows.
These native species are available from vinc Nursery for a couple of dollars just near the Yarrabend park golf course. Open from 8:30- 4:00pm.
Thanks again to all.
